Presentations

Expect a performed presentation of a photographic and poetic project, engaging with the residents and shopkeepers of Chaussée d’Haecht.

“The Chaussée d'Haecht. A street, a very long street. It has always fascinated me. From a musical departure to a Stamboulian atmosphere

A few schools, stores, churches, one of which is in ruins. A very chic street. Take to the sidewalks,

stay, look and soak it all in. Life, trees, roots, little things on the ground.

Make a habit of it. Make a sponge or a magnet in the Haecht pavement, like going far away and being dazzled.”

for vincen beeckman (b. 1973), collaboration is central. the photographer eschews the one-way photographer-subject relationship that defines so many photographic practices. instead, he largely collaborates with marginalised and vulnerable individuals and provides visibility for communities otherwise unacknowledged. beeckman's creative approach is intense. the people on whom his projects centre are not subjects. instead, they become long-term collaborators and friends. joy and lightness run through beeckman's practice despite the challenging subjects he tackles. the photographer’s work does not slip easily into a photographic genre. it is a constellation of many. perhaps this is because beeckman is a multi-faceted creative: an artist, a curator, and an educator.

Vincen Beeckman (born in 1973, lives and works in Brussels) emphasizes collaboration in his photography. His Les Cracks project (2014) involved giving disposable cameras to the homeless to capture their own lives, resulting in an authentic representation of their experiences.
